Adoringly Yours

So I LOVE music. Most types. All types. That said, I don't have a great CD collection, and dedicate very little time tracking down interesting music that I am sure I would love. However, I fell in love with this song from the Mac Notebook commercial and decided to do some tracking. Her name is Yael Naim, and the song is New Soul. Please leave a comment listing one of your favorite songs, preferably one you had to make an effort to track down.

I love music too, many different styles. Andrew & I have discovered many independent artists, one of our first so long ago was Hem, now they are a little more well known. Here's a link to them on utube.

I love that song too. It just makes me feel hopeful.

A recent find is Glen Hansard. He's like a mix of Simon and Garfunkel and the old blue grass music.

here is a song I am sure you all know -- I had an extremely hard time tracking it down once upon a time (it's from a VW commercial)

DaDaDa I don't love you you don't love me by "trio" ... catchy, eh?

JLJ, I LOVE the movie Once, and thought many times about tracking down the musical genius behind it. Thanks for doing it for me.

I love this post because I have been trying to track down the name of an amazing song for the past few weeks. I heard it at a drill competition and now I can't get it out of my head. I have asked everyone I know, spent lots of time on the internet and still no luck. It has the words "forgive me love" and someone said they think it is from the Spiderman soundtrack. I'll let you know when I finally find it.

Just saw this one a couple of days ago. It sort of fell into my lap, though. I did no searching. I love the song, but the video is HILARIOUS.

Brooke, I totally love that video. It seems you are THE weird (I only mean non-mainstream ;) music guru.

YES!... a chance to share and talk about the wonderfulness that is opera!

So it's obvious that I love opera… even baroque. One of my favorite baroque operas is Handel’s Alcina. It’s based on a chapter from the romantic epic “Orlando Furioso” written in the 15th/16th century. The opera is a chapter from the epic and traces the fall of the sorceress Alcina. She lives on enchanted island with lots of men who become shipwrecked and when she tires of them she turns them into rocks, trees, etc. Then she meets the knight Ruggiero and enchants him but actually falls in love with him. Ruggiero’s fiancĂ©e and tutor come to find him and break the spell. This song, Verdi prati, “Green meadows” is sung by Ruggiero after the spell has been broken. He sings his farewell to the illusion and, in doing so, prophecies the fall of Alcina and her power of men and the island.

This song haunts me. This youtube video (just sound) has two versions sung by very famous mezzos… Susan Graham and Vesselina Kasarova. I’m more of a fan of Graham’s voice although both sing faultless renditions.
